Free FileMaker Solution: Excelisys Business Tracker 3
Aside from the templates and free solutions offered by FileMaker Inc, there are other companies that offer free solutions that you can use for your business. The Excelisys Business Tracker 3 is the more advanced version of the FileMaker Business tracker that FileMaker Inc offered as a free download several versions before. This newest release now takes advantage of the latest charting features in FileMaker 11 as well.
This solution shows you the potential for design and functionality of your FileMaker databases. It has a comprehensive home screen, showing all the tasks you can do (aside from the regular menu buttons) in a dashboard-like command center for your tasks. From here you can add, find or filter records on any section of the database.
The Excelisys Business Tracker 3 (I'll call it EBT3 for short) refines your Client database by letting you define contact persons for each company; helpful if you want to track who you're dealing with in large companies. It also offers a separate Vendors database that you use to track where the Products you sell are coming from.
The Invoices section of the solution lets you track which transactions are Quotes or Orders, and is linked to the Products section to show you how many items you have left on stock. There are also fields to enter and view shipping information such as total weight and tracking number. You can enter payments made for each particular invoice and see the remaining unpaid balance.
The Reports section show at a glance all the possible reports and charts you can generate, with a preview of the report in the middle of the screen and the possible parameters for the report that you can customize on the right part of the screen.
The Preferences section shows a comprehensive control panel screen where you can enter your company information, email settings, and even phone number formats. This information will automatically be used in the invoice and other reports so you don't have to dabble into layout mode yourself. The user manager in this section lets you set who can access the solution and what they can do.
Please note that even though this is a free solution, it is not unlocked, meaning you won't be able to make changes to the design of the database aside from the settings provided by the solution. You'll also have to register and activate the database, which is for free, for you to be able to keep using the solution for more than 10 times. Excelisys offers an unlocked version for a fee.
The EBT3 is available for download at excelisys.com.
Fine Print: This blog is not in anyway connected to Excelisys.com, and is not meant as an endorsement of their products and services. I'm just highlighting the third-party solutions to show you what FileMaker Pro is capable of doing, so I probably won't be able to answer any specific questions about the EBT3.
